Well the "classic" text is updated. A compilation of chapters from Oncologists. Call me "old-fashioned" but the test reflects the growing trend for more pictures and graphics than text; Perhaps, a reflection of the growing trend against reading. If I wished a quick look, the internet resources offer a far wider variety (perhaps not "edited" by the panel of chosen). Thus, as a "comprehensive" overview text (valuable source for literature citations?), this text book, while updated, fails to satisfy
I only read a few chapters. This new edition continues to provide the core knowledge in Oncology but I was expecting this edition to integrate the tumor microenvironment concept into the biology of disease but it doesn't. The use of PD1, PD-L1 antibodies in various tumors such as lung and Hodgkin's lymphoma shows that the application of tumor microenvironment may be a worthy addition to cancer therapy. For that you have to read the most recent Perez's book in Radiation Oncology. That's why I give four stars.
I got this book on Oct. 3rd which is way more faster than I expected. This book contains nearly everything I wanna know about cancer, from the gene mutation to the monoclonal antibodies to treat the cancer. But as we know the shortcoming of paper work is it can't follow the state of the art technology of treating cancer, like the immune therapy.Only one year online access is not enough, especially for oncology.
Really the standard book for Oncology fellows/attendings. You cannot complete your training without this book and expect to be a good Oncologist. Yes anyone can memorize treatments. But this includes extensive pathophysiology to really understand the diseases to differentiate the good and the great cancer specialists
